TINSUKIA: The Assam Chah Mazdoor Union (ACMS) has criticized Assam Tea Employees Welfare Board (ATEWB) for allegedly issuing valueless vocational certificates to the trainees of tea garden unemployed youths in the name of Skill India policy.

In a press release, Raju Sahu, APCC vice president and secretary, ACMS, Panitola branch stated that the 18 welfare centres located at Talap, Powai, Chota Tingrai, Lahowal, Hatigarh etc have been imparting short term stipendiary training with outdated technology and have no practical utility and carry no employment opportunities instead he suggested that the government should tie-up with NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation), ASDM (Assam Skill Development Mission) and other agencies and to impart advanced training on nursing, fitter, plumber, welder, tailoring, carpenter, mason, electrician etc. The employees and the trainers working under ATEWP should be well paid, regularized and be given advanced training, said Sahu adding that the present set-up would not solve the unemployment crisis in tea garden rather pushing them into bleak future. He demanded that these valueless training should be stopped and schemes with better employment prospects be launched to uplift garden economy.
