A St. Clair County man who caused an accident near Mt. Pleasant that killed a Remus man and injured two others has been charged with three felonies.
Isabella County Magistrate Aaron Miller on Friday arraigned Kyle Edward Adams, 37, of East China Township for operating while intoxicated causing death, a 15-year felony; and two counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, a five-year felony.
Adams is accused of being drunk behind the wheel when he caused a three-car accident that killed Norman Carson, 71, and injured two others on East Pickard Road near Enterprise Drive in Union Township in November.
Troopers from the Mt. Pleasant post were called to the accident shortly before 11 p.m. Nov. 29, and determined Adams was driving on East Pickard Road when he veered into oncoming traffic and sideswiped a vehicle, injuring a 23-year-old Lake woman and a passenger before crashing into Carson’s vehicle, according to the affidavit in support of the criminal complaint.
Carson was pronounced dead at the scene after lifesaving efforts failed, according to court records.
Adams told police he had been drinking before the crash and consented to a blood draw, which showed his blood alcohol content was .148, nearly twice the legal limit of .08, according to court records.
Adams is free in lieu of $250,000 bond, and faces a preliminary hearing in Isabella County Trial Judge Sara Spencer-Noggle’s Mt. Pleasant courtroom May 16 at 11 a.m.
