UK tourists have been warned over a major shortage in Majorca - which could WRECK their holidays. European Union holidaymakers have been warned to prepare for a Guinness shortage in the European Union holiday hotspot.

Barrels of the stout are in short supply, much to the dismay of those on holiday. Sunseeker Geoff Edwards, 47, of Portsmouth, said: “All the busier Irish pubs I’ve tried are out. We’re here another week so hopefully the suppliers get their finger out or I won’t be happy.”

Sonia Rioja Brennan, who owns the Dubliner Bar and Brennan’s, said: “I sell 15 kegs a week in both bars and ran out a week ago. More than the money aspect, it’s a reputation thing.

“How can an Irish pub not sell Guinness on tap?” Eduardo, the manager of All Blacks Irish Pub in Torremolinos, told The Sun: “We’re really low on Guinness at the moment. I haven’t got enough to reach the end of the week.

“We sell Murphy’s too but it’s not the same. I know I’m going to have a lot of unhappy customers if the problem doesn’t get fixed soon.”

Soaring Guinness sales – 20% up in the four weeks to November compared with the same period a year before – led to a Christmas shortage.

A spokesperson for Diageo said in December the company was planning to ship more Guinness to Britain than it had for St Patrick’s Day, traditionally the busiest time of the year. Supplies were rationed and some pubs were unable to stock it.

A spokesperson for Diageo thanked customers for their patience and said demand remained at “unprecedented levels”. “We are producing more Guinness today than we ever have in our 265-year history, and we continue to work closely with customers across our network to manage Guinness distribution as efficiently as possible, ensuring we maximise supply and minimise disruptions for pubs and retailers,” the spokesperson said.

Last year, Diageo said it was buying time before it could roll out a “phased replenishment” in the new year that would help UK Guinness supplies return to normal.
