On Thursday, April 10, 2025, Jan Allen Hines passed away peacefully in Saluda, surrounded by his loving family.
Known to all as Allen, he began his life in Baltimore on May 8, 1935.
Born to Helen (nee Milanowski) and Allen Hines, he grew up on Bernese Avenue, with a large group of friends, grounded in happy times at Bishop Cummins Memorial Reformed Episcopal Church, the Boys Brigade attached to the church, the ZHO social fraternity, and summers as a beach boy in Ocean City with Jimmy’s Beach Umbrellas.
Allen was a member of the armed forces, serving proudly in Paris, France as a cryptographer.
His education included being part of the class of 1953 at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, and the University of Baltimore School of Law. He was a member of the Maryland Bar.
Allen was formerly employed by Ford Motor Credit, Jimmy Lee’s Irish Pub in downtown Baltimore, and subsequently became the court administrator for the state of Maryland, in Annapolis.
Allen is predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Gibson Hines, who he began dating when they were both 16, and their beloved dog, Scruffy.
They traveled the world collecting friends and memories finally settling on Urbanna Creek in Urbanna for their golden years.
Allen is survived by his younger brother, Ned Hines and his spouse Barbara; many nieces and nephews; neighbors; and his friends at the Yak Yak Club and the Rivers Club in Middlesex.
Services are planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15 at the Faulkner Funeral Home, 15 CF Edwards Lane, Saluda. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Church of the Visitation, 8462 General Puller Hwy., Topping. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to your favorite charity.
