I went to Birkenhead Park and made a rookie mistake
As I looked over my shoulder I soon realised the mistake I had made
"Did you know Central Park in New York was inspired by Birkenhead Park?". This was the question that sparked my interest to venture somewhere I had never before.
I have to be honest, for me the only thing they both have in common is that I have visited neither, however after a short journey on a Merseyrail that was about to change.
Birkenhead Park, which is just a short walk from its namesake station, has nearly 140 acres of historic parkland to lose yourself in and I was ready for the adventure.
Even on a grey Monday afternoon, the park was buzzing with many families enjoying the beautiful woodland, which meant even though I had visited the park on my own, I was far from lonely.
Every person I passed greeted with me a warm smile and polite hello and it wasn't just the people who were friendly.
Taking off my headphones, the sound of birds lightly chirping and ducks forcefully quacking reached my eardrums. But as I looked over my shoulder I soon realised I had made a rookie error.
A group of squirrels, surrounded by blossoming radiant yellow tulips, were watching me before trying their luck at sneaking up behind me.
I wasn't much use to them when they realised I came empty-handed - a rookie mistake - but they kept coming back and trying their luck.
After a 20-minute stroll around the park my trip ended at Birkenhead Park with a spot of people-watching and a coffee secured from a shop nearby. It's fair to say I'll be taking a break from running around Sefton and Princes Park and adding this one into the mix moving forward.
