Calling all Tony's Chocolonely fans, put down that chocolate bar, as the confectionary brand has just issued an urgent warning over two of its top flavours.
On 1 April, Tony's Chocolonely issued a statement on their Instagram account, promising followers it wasn't an April Fool's joke and that two of their most popular flavours needed to be recalled and shoppers should not consume the bars.
The two bars in question are the Dark Almond Sea Salt Bar 180g and the Everything Bar 180g, this is due to the "potential presence of foreign object - small stones - in the product." It was discovered by the brand that after a number of customer complaints and doing their own investigation, "new origin of almonds in a limited batch was insufficiently processed at the supplier's factory".
Writing in their post the brand said: "We’ve decided to recall certain batches of 2 specific choco products due to the potential presence of small stones...We wish this were an April Fool’s, but we’d never kid about the quality of our products.
"Even though the chance of any individual product being affected is low, we’ve decided to take this step to ensure the safety + satisfaction of our Choco Fans.
"This recall only affects these specific products – all your other Tony’s choc is safe to consume and not impacted."
So how do you know if the bars you've purchased (and potentially eaten) are the ones affected by the recall?
Well the brand explained specific lot codes, which can be found near the "best before" date on the outer wrapping, will indicate which bars should not be consumed.
The affected lot codes for the Dark Almond Sea Salt bar are: 164078, 162633, 162614, PL162614, 163061.
And the codes for the Everything Bar are: 4331, 4332, 4333. You can also check your lot code by entering it into the specifically designed recall page on the Tony's website to be sure.
What do you do if you've discovered the bar is one of the one above? Well Tony's Chocolonely recommend you don't eat the bar and instead return to the store you bought it from where you can request a refund and exchange.
