One thing to watch in every New England Revolution match in April

After a slow start to the year, which included just one draw and three straight losses, the New England Revolution began to turn things around Saturday.

Captain Carles Gil not only scored his team’s first goal of the season, but he also finished a 96th-minute penalty to give the club their first win of the season.

The Revs are hoping the 2-1 home win over Red Bull can provide them with some juice ahead of a tough road stretch over the next two weeks.

Just one of New England’s matches in April will come at home.

Whether it’s from the stands of Gillette, an opposing arena, or on TV, here’s one thing to watch in each Revs match this month.

April 5 - At FC Cincinnati, 7:30 p.m.

The Revs have not yet faced Evander in his MLS career. After two years of tearing up the Western Conference with the Portland Timbers, the Brazilian midfielder was bought by Cincinnati for $12 million.

So far in 2025, he’s already shown he’s worth the investment, registering four goals and one assist across six games.

The 26-year-old is sure to be a handful for New England, but it’ll be a great test for the new-look midfield.

Matt Polster and Alhassan Yusuf were steady defensively in the middle for the Revs last game, but Evander will be a new kind of challenge. If that duo and the Revs backline can handle him, they can defend just about anyone in the MLS.

April 12 - At Atlanta United, 2:45 p.m.

Following Saturday’s match against Red Bull, New England coach Caleb Porter said the club expects both Leo Campana and Tomás Chancalay to be back in one to two weeks.

Campana came into the year as the team’s starting striker but went down early on March 8 against Philadelphia with a hamstring injury.

Chancalay has missed significantly more time after partially tearing his ACL last May.

According to Porter’s timetable, they may suit up for his match against Atlanta.

With that duo back, New England’s attack becomes far more threatening. Campana can head back to his spot at the No. 9, and Chancalay can line up on the left wing or as striker when needed.

April 19 - Home against New York City FC, 7:30 p.m.

A home matchup with New York provides New England a great chance to show how they can adapt and respond in-season.

The Revs last played NYFC on March 15 at Yankee Stadium and it was statistically one of their least effective games on the attacking end.

The team tallied just six shots total, with one landing on target. The only goal of the game credited to the team came from a NYFC own goal in the 26th minute.

Not only did the club struggle to score, but they also had trouble on the defensive end. New England allowed two straight goals after going up 1-0 and eventually dropped the contest.

In this quick rematch, Porter and his squad have a chance to show their willingness to adapt tactically or an improved execution of their prior plans.

April 26 - At Charlotte FC, 7:30 p.m.

Charlotte handed New England one of its worst defeats near the end of the year last season, beating them 4-0 at Bank of America Stadium on Sept. 21.

Heading back down to Charlotte, the Revs get a chance to prove they aren’t the same team that finished last season at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

A win in the Tar Heel State will do more than just repair pride, it will also show New England can contend and take down the top teams in the league. Entering April, Charlotte sits in fifth in the Eastern Conference.
