Carol Ofori's top 4 coffee spots in Durban
Updated | By Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
If you're looking for inspiration on where to have your coffee, here are Carol Ofori's top spots in Durban.

When it comes to coffee, everyone has their go-to shot of caffeine.
Some swear by a flat white, while others are all about a double-shot espresso. Whatever your fix, most coffee lovers agree: great coffee is best enjoyed in a fantastic setting.
We asked Carol Ofori to share her favourite coffee spots around Durban, and she gave us a list of four she visits regularly.
Her picks are listed in no particular order – so there's no bias here.
1. African Roots Café Restaurant
The vibe and atmosphere of this coffee house and restaurant perfectly align with Carol's persona. Her deep love for both Africa and coffee finds a beautiful home in this idyllic spot on Lagoon Drive, Umhlanga.
According to their website, "African Roots combines 100% premium single-origin coffee paired with delicious African-inspired food to bring you a cultural experience. Our goal is to promote Africa’s beautiful countries, different traditions, colourful cultures and stories – one cup at a time."
Tucked away on Bulwer Road in Glenwood, this charming spot serves up burgers, pizza, and coffee every Friday. Their breakfast menu blends tradition with a refreshing twist, offering a variety of light meals to suit every taste.
And, of course, they have coffee – hot and cold – along with frappes, sodas, and juices. So, whether you're a coffee lover or not, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Not to play favourites, but when we asked Carol Ofori to share her top coffee spots, the majority of the photos she sent were taken at Gatvol. So, without a doubt, we can confidently say this is one of her go-to spots.
Located on Braemar Avenue in La Lucia, Gatvol is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee, dive into a good book, or have a meal. Plus, they serve alcohol, so if that’s your thing, you’ll want to check it out.
A beloved gem on Churchill Road in Durban, Antique Café has been a favourite of locals for years. Known for its bespoke antique-style furniture, vibrant colours, and eclectic charm, it exudes an old-town feel that transports you to a different era.
Their menu is simple, but with a setting such as this, it's the perfect spot to visit for quality "me time".
