Over 4,000 bags of coffee recalled in THESE 15 states and THIS was the reason

Around 4,000 bags of ground coffee sold across 15 states in the US are being recalled, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced. In case you’re reading this while sipping your cup of coffee, you might want to put it down, raid your coffee stash, and check the labels. The mislabeled product could give you an unexpected caffeine boost.

What is the recalled product?

The recalled product is 'COFFEE ROASTERS Our Family Traverse City Cherry Artificially Flavored Decaf Light Roast Ground Coffee'. It comes in 12-ounce bags with the UPC code 0 70253 11080 1 and a best-before date of Aug. 3, 2025. The specific code information on the bags is BEST BEFORE 080325 V 15:37 C. This product was distributed by the Spartannash Company out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and manufactured by Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA. The recall involves 692 cases, each containing six 12-ounce bags.

Why is the coffee being recalled?
The firm initiated voluntary recall due to mislabelling. Some bags of Our Family Traverse City Cherry Artificially Flavored Decaf Light Roast Ground Coffee were mislabeled as decaffeinated when they actually contain caffeine.
The FDA classified it as a Class II recall on Tuesday, Mar. 25. The Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA issued a voluntary recall on Mar. 13.
What is a Class II recall?

Though no information was provided on what customers should do with the recalled product, a Class II recall according to the FDA is ‘a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.’
In which states are the recalled products sold?

The recalled bags of coffee were distributed across 15 states in the United States: Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

If you are thinking, if a mislabelling is worth your concern, it depends on your health and caffeine sensitivity. Some medical conditions can prevent people from consuming caffeine. For people who have medical conditions like heart issues, diabetes, or high blood pressure, consuming caffeine can worsen symptoms. The FDA warns that decaffeinated coffees and teas have less caffeine than their regular counterparts, but still contain some caffeine. "For example, decaf coffee typically has 2 to 15 milligrams in an 8-fluid-ounce cup. If you react strongly to caffeine in a negative way, you may want to avoid these beverages altogether," the health agency notes on its website.
