PM Abiy Says Ethiopia’s Industrial Production Capacity Reaches 61 Percent

Addis Ababa, March 20, 2025 (ENA) – Ethiopia’s industrial production capacity has reached 61 percent with 55 new factories beginning operations during the current Ethiopia fiscal year.

Currently, 7.9 hectares of land has been covered with wheat seed cultivated through Meher farming season and summer irrigation schemes expecting to harvest over 300 million quintals, Prime Minister Abiy revealed to the House of Peoples Representatives today.

The premier said the government's dedication to enhancing the agricultural sector has positioned Ethiopia as Africa's leading wheat producer.

Highlighting the positive strides made in coffee and tea production, the Prime Minister noted that the country has generated 1.2 billion USD from coffee exports in just the past eight months.

Abiy highlighted the ongoing efforts undertaken by a steering committee formed under the Office of the Prime Minister to tackle the challenges confronting the industrial sector. The committee has identified several critical issues, including the availability of foreign currency and power supply, and is implementing measures to resolve these challenges.

As a result, the power supply to the sector has increased by 50 percent this year compared to the previous year. Additionally, there has been a significant enhancement in cement production within the country, aimed at meeting domestic demand while also creating capacity for exports.

He noted that the nation’s industrial production capacity has reached 61 percent, with 55 new factories beginning operations this year alone.
