An Ipswich pub has been granted a pavement licence which will allow its customers to sit outside.

The Salutation will now be able to place five tables with 10 chairs outside after the licence was approved by Ipswich Borough Council.

The tables will be outside the Carr Street pub from 11am until midnight everyday, allowing patrons to enjoy the upcoming summer weather.

Residents had no objections to the plans, allowing the licence to be approved without going before a meeting of Ipswich Borough Council's licencing committee.

Located in the town centre, The Salutation was popular in the 1920s and 1930s served airmen who served at the county's airbases, RAF Martlesham and RAF Lakenheath according to the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

The pub is the latest in a series of bars that have applied to have outdoor seating.

The Curve Bar in Princes Street had an application for a pavement licence approved in December of last year.

However, unlike The Salutation, they may only have seating outside on Ipswich Town match days.
