On January 28, 2025, Mohamed Arkab, Algeria’s Minister of State and Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, will represent President Abdelmadjid Tebboune at the African Heads of State Summit on Energy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where key energy challenges and solutions for the continent will be discussed.

The summit, organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) alongside the World Bank and the African Union, is themed “Lighting Up Africa: The Transformative Power of Mission 300.” It aims to address Africa’s energy crisis and explore solutions to provide electricity access to 300 million people by 2030. Several ministerial sessions will precede the summit, focusing on accelerating energy access and expanding renewable energy solutions. Minister Arkab is expected to present Algeria’s national energy plans, including solar infrastructure, regional electricity networks, and green hydrogen initiatives.

The summit will culminate in the signing of the “Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration,” which will pledge increased energy access and a commitment to renewable energy adoption. Minister Arkab’s involvement highlights Algeria’s leadership in regional energy initiatives, driven by national companies like Sonatrach and Sonelgaz, which have been pivotal in supporting energy infrastructure development across Africa.

Algeria’s participation in this summit reinforces its commitment to regional and global energy security, providing critical insights and solutions that will benefit Africa’s energy future. Through such efforts, Algeria aims to contribute significantly to the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in ensuring affordable and clean energy for all.
