MADDOCK, N.D. — A man was charged for driving under the influence after a single-car crash in northern North Dakota.

Donald Ystaas, 71, of Sheyenne, North Dakota, was injured when his 1995 Lincoln left the roadway shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday, April 21. The crash occurred on Highway 30, five miles south of Maddock.

According to a release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, "the Lincoln was southbound on Highway 30 when the driver lost control, leaving the roadway. The vehicle struck the guardrail for the bridge and began rotating, coming to rest facing north in the west ditch."

Ystaas, who was not wearing a seat belt, was treated for injuries on the scene and then transported to a hospital in Harvey and, later, to Sanford in Bismarck.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
