FOLLOWUP: Swedish announces its plan for West Seattle Junction move

Four months after we first reported that Swedish was taking over the Capco Beverages space at 4100 SW Alaska, the health-care organization has announced its plan. Even after documents in city files confirmed Swedish as the new tenant, the organization didn’t answer our requests for comment, but Swedish has detailed the plan in a letter sent to local patients:

… Our team is pleased to announce two major changes taking place this year that will strengthen and expand our commitment to providing you safe, high-quality care. This summer, Swedish West Seattle Primary Care Clinic will relocate to a new West Seattle location. In addition, Swedish Medical Group will increase internal-medicine service capacity with opening of the new Swedish West Seattle Internal Medicine clinic. Both clinics are conveniently located in the Junction and are less than a block away from one another. Please note that our West Seattle Primary Care internal medicine providers will relocate to the new West Seattle Internal Medicine clinic.

Beginning June 2021, the clinics and our providers will begin operating at the following locations:

Swedish West Seattle Internal Medicine
4744 41st Ave SW

Swedish West Seattle Primary Care
4100 SW Alaska St

While the SW Alaska location is new for Swedish, it already has some providers at the 41st SW site. As for the future of its current space at 3400 California SW, where Swedish was a tenant, there’s nothing new in online files so far.

Rumor has it Kaiser Permanente (who currently lacks a West Seattle presence) will be taking over the old Swedish location

If I remember correctly, Group Health (now KP) was a former tenant in Jefferson Square back in the 1990s.

The letter does not mention the pediatrics clinic. It does not say if Swedish is adding clinic space at 4744 41st, or is converting the pediatrics clinic to the internal medicine clinic. It is evident from the letter that West Seattle is losing medical services with this move. The surgical and dermatology specialist doctors will no longer have offices in West Seattle. We will have to travel to downtown or further away for consultations and pre- and post-op follow up visits.

That’s what I see in reading the letter, too. I’m hoping the Pediatrics stays in West Seattle. And I’m bummed I’ll be losing my dermatologist if they can’t find a spot for him somewhere in the two locations. I hope they clarify the pediatrics- that will affect ALOT of people if they get relocated off peninsula.

  There is no mention that the Pediatrics is moving from their current location on the east side of Jefferson Square. Pediatrics moved there only about 3 or 4 years ago….The only good news, so far, about the move is they will have free parking in the garage.

Weirdly, if you search Polyclinic, it shows a W.Sea location at 3400 California….

Looked it up last week as my Polyclinic primary care dr moved to a new specialty and I had to pick a new one. The two people in West Seattle are affiliated with Swedish and were cardiology and kidney related specialists. Wish Polyclinic would come over here I’ve been established with them for 10 years since I lived across the street from their old Northgate location. I make the drive for checkups but when I’m not feeling well it’s a long haul across town or even to their Madison facility without the bridge.

The biggest loss to the Swedish family and West Seattle for that matter was Thomas Erdmann MD leaving for greener pastures. My biggest tie to that location and Swedish has forced me into looking for service elsewhere as his care was compassionate, excellent and already missed, and I and others wish him the best.
