A vision for healthier and more affordable meals prompted Apenisa Vodo, a former professional rugby player to open his own restaurant.

Hence, Big Green Salad Bar was born in 2013.

Creative director for the health bar, was one of the first Fijians to represent Italy internationally in the National Italian Rugby Team.

It was in Italy when the former backliner showed interest in how special dishes were being made.

After a few business ventures, Mr Vodo turned to his life after rugby long term love which is food.

How many places have you visited so far in Fiji?

I’ve visited quite a lot of places in Fiji.

My work formerly as a ships officer at the Fiji Maritime Academy had enabled me to see the beauty of Fiji rather extensively.

What is the one spot you would take every visitor to, and why?

Vatulele island – my home island.

It has nice white sandy beaches and is well known for red prawns and masi (dyed bark cloth).

What is your favourite secret backyard spot?

My favourite backyard spot are the beaches around the country.

The beaches provide a good place for leisure, with the warm sun, white sand and gentle waves.

What is your favourite place in Fiji for a pie/coffee?

Gloria Jean’s. It has more space and is located on the second floor of the FNPF Plaza, Suva. It’s right below the Big Green Salad Bar.

I am also good friends with the owner so it is always nice to support each other.

What is the one Fiji spot on the top of your bucket list?

I would love to visit the interior villages of Viti Levu.

I was born and raised in the islands  of Fiji and would love to get the experience of living in the remote villages.
