JD.com to attend 1st China International Consumer Products Expo in Hainan

CHINA. Powerful ecommerce retailer JD.com will take part in the first China International Consumer Products Expo (Hainan Expo), to be held on 7-10 May in Hainan.

The Expo is being organised by Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development (Hainan IEDB). Hainan IEDB Director General Han Shengjian met recently with JD Group Vice President Zhang Yilin to discuss their cooperation on the Expo.

JD.com is China’s largest online retailer and its biggest overall retailer, as well as the country’s biggest Internet company by revenue. Its nationwide fulfillment network covers 99% of China’s population, and provides standard same- and next-day delivery.

Hainan IEDB Director General Han Shengjian said that the event will be critical in enhancing Hainan’s status as an international tourism consumption centre. It will be an important national-level exhibition for premium international brands, helping to drive increased domestic spending and accelerating the repatriation of overseas consumption by Chinese citizens.

Zhang Yilin said that JD Group is highly optimistic about the Expo. In addition to participating in the event, the group will also invite a number of buyers from flagship stores and professional purchasing groups to engage with exhibitors. Zhang said that the group is looking forward to greater cooperation with global brands and conducting increased sourcing through the Expo.

The organisers estimate that between 3,000 and 5,000 professional buyers and up to 50,000 high-end consumers will visit the Expo each day. Confirmed attendees include procurement representatives from China Duty Free Group (CDFG), Wangfujing Group and several of Hainan’s newly established offshore duty free retailers, China Resources Mixc, Swire Group and Dashang Group among other domestic and foreign duty free operators, high-end retailers, large-scale supermarkets, commercial real estate companies, and leading luxury goods ecommerce platforms.

Buyers from member companies of various international Chambers of Commerce have been confirmed as attending the Expo, including the China Chamber of Commerce. Also, China Chain Store & Franchise Association will organise member companies to source from the exhibition.

More than 200 global brands have now confirmed their participation at the Expo, Hainan IEDB revealed. These include a number of prominent brand owners in the travel retail channel such as Rémy CointreauL’Oréal, Edrington Group, Pernod Ricard and Shiseido. Foreign brands account for nearly 80% of all Expo exhibitor bookings, the organiser noted.
