Starbucks and Tim Hortons have new competition at Vancouver International Airport (YVR).

Italian coffee purveyor Illycaffè opened its doors today (August 1), located in the international terminal between gates 65 and 66.

Travellers will find various caffeinated beverages like traditional espresso, latte, cappuccino, illy cold brew, and other specialty drinks.

The Italian coffee bar’s menu extends beyond coffee: tea and small bites will also be served. International travel essentials shop Relay is connected to the newly opened spot, selling items like snacks, travel pillows, and more.

“We are thrilled to partner once again with Paradies Lagardère and welcome premium coffee shop illycaffè to YVR,’ Scott Norris, vice president of  commercial development at Vancouver Airport Authority, said in a press statement.

Coffee beverages like traditional espresso and cappuccino will be served.

“Part of delivering outstanding customer experiences is offering new and innovative concepts that appeal to our diverse group of travellers. We can’t wait for our passengers to enjoy illycaffè and the rest of our enhanced food and beverage and retail program, which will be introduced over the next two years.”

The opening of Illycaffè is the first of many new food and beverage concepts to debut at YVR. In February, the airline hub announced it will be adding dozens of eateries and drinking spots inside its terminals over the next two years.

Local names like Hawksworth, the Dirty Apron, Heritage Asian Eatery, Steamworks, Whistler Brewing, and Red Truck Beer will set up outlets within the airport. Vancouver’s Uno Gelato recently made its debut as the first frozen-treats shop to open at YVR.

Other international brands to join include San Francisco’s Napa Farms Market (which will open as Pacific Farms Market), as well as Scandinavian juice and coffee concept Joe and the Juice.
