England lost two early wickets in the second innings as Josh Hazlewood bowled a hostile spell of fast bowling to dismiss Alastair Cook and James Vince. They ended the third day of the first Ashes Test against Australia at 33 for 2, and with a lead of only seven runs at the Gabba. Australia took the lead in the first innings against England on the third day after captain Steve Smith scored a century before Tea. Smith remained unbeaten on 141 as Australia were bowled out for 328, taking a lead of 26 runs. Australia were in trouble at one time when James Anderson and Stuart Broad struck in quick succession with the second new ball but Pat Cummins and Steve Smith shared a decent partnership to take Australia closer to 302. But, Cummins was dismissed for 42 before Smith batted with the two remaining wickets to first complete his century and then help Australia take the lead.
