Washington fought Boonville to a standstill in the first quarter of the season opener Friday night, but the Pioneers' mainstays on offense finally helped them pull away in the middle of the game en route to a 23-0 road win.

Quarterback Jackson Phillips hit Caleb McKinney on a 55-yard strike midway through the second quarter and a Luke Conner four-yard plunge near the end of the first half, along with two successful two-point tries, gave the Pioneers a 16-0 lead going into the locker room.

Phillips hit McKinley again in the third, this time on a swing pass out of the backfield for 49 yards, to finish the scoring.
