There's nothing like a European city break if you're after a holiday that's packed with culture, history, sightseeing... and a vibrant nightlife.

However when it comes to making the most of a city's bars, restaurants and clubs, sometimes it can feel like the price of booze takes up a significant chunk of your holiday budget, not leaving much leeway to actually go out and see the city.

Luckily, there are some destinations in Europe which are renowned for their cheap beer prices - and Skyscanner has revealed the top 7 where you can bag a cheap pint.

There are major cities included such as Budapest, Krakow and Paris, but surprisingly, London has made the list too.

Despite its reputation for being pricier than most other UK cities, when it come to beer London's bars offer a wealth of happy hours and discounts, so it ends up working out quite cheap for beer.

We take a look at Skyscanner 's findings and why the seven cities should go on your travel wishlist immediately...

1. Budapest

There's a reason Budapest is a hit with hen and stag do parties, and it's not just because of the famed thermal baths and dinner cruises on the Danube.

There are 90p bottles of lager on offer, not to mention in the summer the party heads out to the massive beer gardens that line up the river.

Don't clink your glasses or say 'cheers' when on beer in Hungary though - custom has forbidden it since 1848 when Austrian leaders defeated the Hungarian revolution and celebrated with a toast.

Average price of a pint: £1.08

Must-visit bar:Szimpla Kert is a 'ruin pub' - a disused building repurposed for drinking - and has a cool outdoor yard with quirky suspended bicycles and a Trabant car adorned in graffiti.

2. Belgrade

Beer costing £1 a pint is the order of the day in a lot of Belgrade pubs - head there in the summer when sipping is best done out on the water, as bars and clubs spring up along the Rivers Danube and Sava on moore floats.

The Belgrade Beer Fest in August is also a hit with tourists, attracting half a million people every year, and the best part is entry is free.

Average price of a pint: £1.14 for a half litre

Must-visit bar: Go cosy and comfy by the river at The Black Turtle Pub , who brew their own fruit-flavoured beers, or head to Dali Bar (Hilandarska 20) where travellers can sip on martinis costing around €4 while taking in the surroundings inspired by the artist.

How to get there: The cheapest UK flights from London to Belgrade with prices from £50 , but you can also fly from Manchester from £134 , or Birmingham from £149 .

3. Munich

A predictable choice perhaps, but we must nod tipsily in the direction of Munich, with its truly world-famous Oktoberfest.

Travellers don't have to wait until autumn to get the beers in, as they like their lager all year in Munich. A summer visit will reward travellers with the opportunity to booze in one of the city’s many, many beer gardens.

At around €3.50 a pint while it's not the cheapest city break destination, a lot of drinking venues let visitors bring their own food - so you can still stick to a budget.

Must-visit bar:Hofbrauhaus is a must for any first-time visitor. Expect the full Bavarian tourist experience, complete with lederhosen, oompah music and toasting their new-found friends whilst standing on the table.

How to get there: Flights to Munich are relatively cheap, with prices starting from £60 for a London departure . Meanwhile a Manchester departure starts from £72 , and while Birmingham has prices from £95 . You can also fly from Bristol, but prices rise to around £121.

4. Paris

In France, it's the wine where you can get some pretty great deals.

For example, in spring and summer, winemakers from the Rhone, the Loire and such head up to Paris to showcase their wares in tasting sessions au gratuit .

The vinblanc , rouge and rosé is often served up with on-the-house snacks too.

Must-visit bar: Head to the 5th arrondisement to Le Requin Chagrin, where travellers can sample 12 beers for just €12.

5. London

It may have a reputation for having expensive drinks menus, but when you stay away from cocktails you can find some great deals in London.

Search out happy hour deals and get the drinks in between the hours of 4pm and 8pm to make the pennies go further - Shoreditch and Hoxton are good places to start.

Must-visit bar: The Tank and Paddle does £2 pints every Tuesday or a pint and a pizza for £10 on Thursdays.

6. Edinburgh

If you're heading to Edinburgh you'll want to sample some of Scotland's world-famous whisky, but it's not always the most budget-friendly.

For best value beers and ales, a local pub is your best bet - there are more per square mile than any city in the world.

Average price of a pint: £3.54

Must-visit bar: The Cumberland Bar has a wide array of craft beers and ales, and boasts a stunning garden overhung by a willow tree - ideal for those long summer evenings.

7. Krakow

The beautiful old town conceals many bars housed in ornate buildings and atmospheric cellars.

In fact, they're the happy haunt of stag and hen weekenders, backpackers and partying locals making the most of the cheap vodka - and the beer isn't bad either.

Must-visit bar: Find cheap beer (one euro!) at Bania Luka (Plac Szczepański), plus Polish bar snacks to add bulk to a night out.
