Gov. Kay Ivey adds $495,000 in campaign funding, tops $5 million total

Gov. Kay Ivey reported $495,000 in contributions to her campaign in the governor's race in the month of August, bringing her total to $5.45 million since she began raising money last summer.

Ivey has a large fundraising lead over Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox, the Democratic nominee. Maddox had raised $1.38 million through the month of July.

Maddox has not filed his report for August. The Associated Press reported that the Maddox campaign expected to report $338,000 in contributions for August when the campaign files its report on Wednesday.

Ivey's campaign has reported spending a total of $5.17 million and reported a balance of $338,000 to end the month of August.

Through July, the Maddox campaign had spent $1.1 million and showed a balance of $313,000.

Maddox was competitive with Ivey in fundraising in July, raising $265,000, while the governor raised $268,000.

Ivey's largest contributions in August included $25,000 each from the Alabama Truckers Association political action committee and the Alabama Builders Association political action committee.

Other large PAC contributions included $20,000 from the Committee for Good Government PAC; $16,000 from the Alabama Nursing Home Association; $15,000 from the lobbying firm Franklin Resources Group; and $10,000 each from the Alabama Bankers Association, Caterpillar Employees and Boeing.

Ivey's largest business contributions included $25,000 from Georgia Crown Distributing; and $15,000 each from Charles E. Watts, Inc. of Gadsden; Dunn Construction Co. of Birmingham; Midsouth Paving Inc., of Birmingham; Whitaker Contracting Corp., of Guntersville; and Wiregrass Construction Co., of Dothan.

Ivey's largest contributions from individuals included $15,000 from Gregory T. Abramson of Vestavia Hills and $10,000 each from Phylis Baron of Huntsville and Reid B. Dove of Dothan.

The election is Nov. 6.
