In October, exports increased by 16.4, imports – by 14.8% in Lithuania y-o-y

Statistics Lithuania informs that, based on non-final data obtained from customs declarations, Intrastat reporting and VAT returns data, exports in October 2017 amounted to EUR 2.37 billion, imports – EUR 2.53 billion. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin amounted to EUR 1.37 billion. The foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to EUR 160.3 million.

Over the month (October 2017, against September), exports increased by 2.6, imports – 4.6%. The increase in exports was influenced by an increase in exports of petroleum products (10.2%), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (14.4%), ground vehicles (23.1%). The increase in imports was determined by an increase in imports of electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (22.7%), ground vehicles (4.9%), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (4.6%).  Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 1.6, imports – 8.4%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 3.3%, mineral products excluded – 6.1%.




Over the year (October 2017, against October 2016), exports increased by 16.4, imports – 14.8%. The increase in exports was influenced by an increase in exports of petroleum products (20.5%) (amount in tonnes increased by 9.5%), ground vehicles (46.2%), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (24.1%). The increase in imports was determined by an increase in imports of crude petroleum (11.7%) (amount in tonnes decreased by 12.2%), ground vehicles (28.4%), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (15.1%). Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 15.2, imports – 15.2%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 12.3%, mineral products excluded – 8.5%.


In January–October 2017, against the same period of 2016, exports and imports increased by 16.7 and 16.4% respectively. The increase in exports was determined by an increase in exports of petroleum products (23.5%) (amount in tonnes decreased by 3%), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (24.7%), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (27.5%). The increase in imports was influenced by an increase in imports of crude petroleum (50.6%) (amount in tonnes increased by 5.9%), ground vehicles (21.5%), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (13.7%). Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 15.3, imports – 13.7%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 14.6%, mineral products excluded – 10.5%.


In January–October 2017, the most important Lithuania’s partners in exports were Russia (14.5%), Latvia (10.2%), Poland (8.3%) and Germany (7.4%), while in imports – Russia (13.2%), Germany (12.4%), Poland (10.7%) and Latvia (7.1%). Most of the goods of Lithuanian origin were exported to Germany (9.7%), Poland (9%), the United States (7.8%), Latvia (7.7%) and Sweden (7.5%).




In January–October 2017, the largest share in Lithuania’s exports and imports fell within mineral products (14.5 and 19.5 respectively), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (15.6 and 18% respectively) and products of the chemical and allied industries (10.1 and 11.6% respectively).  As for the goods of Lithuanian origin, the largest share in exports fell within petroleum products (19.5%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (11.7%), prepared foodstuffs, beverages, spirits and tobacco (8.7%), live animals, animal products (7.8%).
