Hillary Swank Recent Visit to Marchesi di Barolo

JERICHO, N.Y., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- On the twenty-sixth of September, the town of Barolo welcomed two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank into their world. Ms. Swank, an avid admirer of Italian food, wine and culture was graciously brought to the Cantina of Marchesi di Barolo for an afternoon of Piemontese delights. Ernesto Abbona, proprietor of the family-owned Marchesi di Barolo, offered a Cantina tour, Cru Barolo Tasting & Luncheon of Piemontese specialties to Hilary Swank and her brother Dan Swank.

The two were intrigued by the history and tradition surrounding the area & the Marchesi di Barolo Estate. Their interest stretched to include questions pertaining to the intricacies of soil composition, structure & influence on the wines which was followed by a Cru Barolo tasting lead by none other than Ernesto Abbona. Ernesto speaks passionately about the Meso and Micro climates of Barolo's Cru hills, and the tasting included the three exceptional single vineyards of Marchesi di Barolo, Barolo Cannubi, Barolo Sarmassa and Barolo Coste di Rose.

Ernesto was quite pleased to discover Ms. Swank's ability to discern and appreciate the key differentiating notes between the Cru wines. Upon departure Ernesto gave as a gift to Ms. Swank one of the jewels of the Marchesi di Barolo library collection, a 1974 Barolo Riserva. Their visit concluded with a beautifully organized truffle hunt in the hills of Barolo and Serralunga d'Alba.
